To be brave is to take action in spite of fear. Kopeability arose admittedly from my own set of fears. My name is Maggie in case you were wondering. I am a lawyer by trade and in no way a medical professional. I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend. I am speaking to you as a person who has fears: fears for myself, my children, my husband, my parents, my friends and extended family. That is a lot of fear! Overwhelming and, frankly, unnecessary.
Sometimes my fears are well founded. Indeed, life can be scary. What is scary to one person may not be scary to another. For instance, the picture above is the Capilano River as I walked across the Capilano Bridge in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I was TERRIFIED. My companion, being my eldest son, was cool as a cucumber and calm.
My son didn't need any coping techniques for the Capilano Bridge. He was not afraid. I coped by clinging to his shirt and balling the cotton in my sweating and pulsating fist. Me! I have jumped out of planes five times in my life but that bridge, despite my unfazed son, was a punch in the gut.
In life, though, sometimes my son is the one who needs coping techniques. For that matter, all kinds of loving and amazing people I know need coping techniques. Thus the realization of Kopeability Products Inc. and this website.
This site is dedicated to all things coping related. The idea being that the playing field in the game called life needs to be leveled sometimes for all of us to participate. Some of us need help in large ways for enormous pain. Some of us just need little tweaks. Whatever the angle and whatever the need, on this site, there is no judgment, no scorn and no ridicule.
Not only will I blog about coping related matters, I intend to provide literature and product reviews which will cover what has and has not worked for our family. In time, we hope to sell products we are testing locally. If you are interested in being a test family, contact us. For now, we are content with opening up the discussion about coping skills and techniques.
I hope we can share successes and challenges. Maybe motivate each other to find ways to cope. Let's all cope with dignity.
No single coping technique will take all the pain away.
Try anyway.
Maggie
